A music night

On 12th February we held a Musical Event at the Clayton Hotel in Chiswick. This was attended by over ninety members and guests of the Rotary Clubs of Chiswick and Brentford (President John Armstrong), Kensington and Chelsea (President Oleg Schkoda), Heston and Isleworth (President Barbara Doherty), and Ealing, Hanwell and Northfields (President Richard Jones). Also in attendance was Shantha Selvadurai our local District Assistant Governor.

Presidents’ Table

The event was held to raise funds for our Rotary club’s project in support of a hostel school in Muchu village, Humla – one of the remotest Himalayan regions of Nepal. The event raised £1900 for this worthy cause, which the club has been supporting for more than five years.

Our President describing the Nepal Hostel School Project

The highlight of the evening was a musical entertainment provided by composer-conductor Michael Reed. He described the early days of producing the Barnum musical in London, working with Andrew Lloyd Webber on a number of hits including Phantom of the Opera, and the recent musical direction of Bat out of Hell. This was a wonderful virtuoso presentation, and we are very grateful to Michael for giving his time freely in support of our event.

We are also grateful to our team of David, John S, Didem, Jean, Bill, James and Oliver for producing the event and ensuring it ran so smoothly.

With their more open and friendly space, school projects and their goals to build local business and local community we were more than happy to be involved. The event was also supported by John Simkiss from the local Nda Architects on Sutton lane and Jean Morgan-Bryant and Richard Donovan of Ricston Consultancy

With the help of the very friendly Lisa Dunn the Nat West branch manager we were able to talk to the staff and patrons around the local community projects and the Chiswick Rotary school projects in Nepal (http://humlachildren.org/)

Our President kept the fun going and any speeches mercifully brief and we were even surprised by a traditional Japanese dance by one of our newest members Akemi
